Guidance: The school counselor presents guidance lessons to ALL students to encourage a safe school climate of kindness, empathy, and respect for the rights and dignity of others in the light of the Gospel and Catholic social teachings. The following programs are used in support of the guidance goals and objectives:
SECOND STEP - The research-based Second Step® Bullying Prevention Unit gives educators and school staff the training and tools needed to effectively address school bullying, social emotional learning, and child protection.
KIMOCHIS - a social-emotional program that teaches skills for managing emotions and establishing positive relationships
KELSO'S CHOICES - a conflict management program that teaches nine problem-solving skills
YELLOW DYNO, CHILD LURES - personal safety programs that teach children how to take an active roll in protecting themselves from potentially unsafe situations
COMMON SENSE EDUCATION- each digital citizenship lesson takes on real challenges and digital dilemmas that students face today, giving them the skills they need to succeed as digital learners, leaders, and citizens tomorrow.
Counseling Counseling services are provided for students whose immediate concerns (ex. academic or behavioral, transitioning concerns, peer relationships, bullying/cyberbullying, death, divorce, etc.) may interfere with their ability to learn or concentrate on schoolwork. The counselor:
Meets individually with students to do brief, solution-focused counseling
Facilitates small groups
Maintains confidentiality of students and their families unless there is a need-to-know or safety concern
