Yes, it is the beginning of the season of coughing, sneezing, and headaches. We are aware that down south, down here in allergy country, we tend to have a doozie of an allergy season. Not only do we battle with allergies, but the flu is out there waiting to strike. We are also aware that Covid-19 symptoms are so all-encompassing, that they can charade as allergies, or the flu.
Therefore, we are asking each family to commit to keeping your child/or children home if they exhibit any of the symptoms that could be Covid-19. Metro Health and CDC guidelines state that people should stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. We are asking our families to abide by this recommendation. The following list includes symptoms that would warrant your child staying home until they are symptom free for 24 hours:
Fever
Coughing
Vomiting
Runny or stuffy nose
Headache
Shortness of breath/tightness of chest
Diarrhea
Loss of taste or smell
This list is comprised of many symptoms that describe a cold, flu, or allergies. Unfortunately, we cannot decipher between what is a cold, flu, or Covid-19 without a test. We ask that you please keep your child home if they are exhibiting any of the above symptoms and to keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
Our school has opened up to have on site learners solely for the purpose of doing what is best for our children. An outbreak of Covid-19 on our campus would be detrimental to not only our students, but also to our teachers. We have many teachers on this campus that must be protected at all costs. We are doing our part to assure a safe environment for all. We are asking you to do your part to keep us all safe.
We will continue to have temperatures taken of our students and faculty and staff. We will assess the students' health, as they come on campus. If your child is exhibiting symptoms, we will call and ask you to pick them up. Please understand that we are all hypersensitive to the plethora of symptoms of Covid-19. We do not want to cause fear, or incite gossip about potential cases. We know that keeping your child home if they exhibit symptoms is the best course to keep everyone safe.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH
According to the National Association of School Psychologists, suicide is the leading cause of death among school age children. However, suicide is preventable. #BeThe1To is the National Suicide Prevention LIfeline’s message to help spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide. ASK: Research shows that people who are having thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks about them in a caring way. Findings suggest that acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce rather than increase suicidal ideation. BE THERE - Individuals are more likely to feel less depressed, less suicidal, less overwhelmed, and more hopeful after speaking to someone who listens without judgment.
