A reflection of the past year would not serve it justice. What we overcame to have such a successful year is beyond words. I think I can sum it up with one statement, faith to be brave. I don’t think I ever knew how brave I was until this year. I don’t think any of us knew how brave we were. We were really put to the test this year, but we came out on top. The lessons and realizations we take with us should resonate, not the things we missed out on. I challenge all of you to focus on the many gifts we obtained this year. We may have lost some opportunities, or had to do things a little differently, but in the long run, the challenges we face and conquer define us. We realized this year that we love our traditions at St. Luke. Although we had to do things a little differently, we were able to accomplish much and keep our traditions alive. I know it was so special to give our children so many of our traditions this year, and for that, I am grateful. We also have grown together as a community. The forced sharing of ideas and empathy has resulted in a deeper appreciation for each other. We have had to dig deeply to really empathize with parents and students, to truly understand how we can meet needs and be effective in creating a kind and loving community. We know the parents have also been on a journey this year of adapting, adjusting, and pivoting. This shared understanding and tolerance is a strong foundation to build on, as we enter into a more traditional year next year. As many of us were stretched to the max this year, with the loss of loved ones, financial problems, isolation; we are coming out of our safe space and facing the world changed. We have all been traumatized at some level, and how we are feeling now is a normal reaction. I encourage all of you to really embrace the feelings we have been gifted with to grow and become a beacon of hope for others. Turning our tragedies into something positive is a true reflection of our shared love of Jesus. His death transformed us all into worthiness to attain eternal life. Through His sufferings, He knew the end result would transform hearts for eternity. I hope you will embrace your feelings and use them to make our community and your lives better. That is the hope of salvation. As we conclude this year, I want you to know how much you and your families mean to us at St. Luke. We are more than just a Catholic School. We are your family. We strive to bring the best spiritual and educational experiences to our children. Together, we can accomplish much. Together, we can use the gifts God has given us to make St. Luke a truly transformational experience. Together, we can experience the love of God and accept the many gifts given to us to transform the world, one child at a time. Nadine Buhrman COUNSELOR’S CORNER . . .
To my St. Luke Community,
As I reflect back over the past 25 years I’ve served as St. Luke school counselor, and recall all the beautiful coworkers, students, and families who have touched my life, I feel a mixture of emotions. I’m happy to reach this milestone that I've prepared for, but sad at the same time to leave my St. Luke family. I’m a bit uneasy because I’ll no longer have the routine that I've grown comfortable with, but most of all I am filled with love! I have so many wonderful memories to take with me that I’ll cherish always!
Now, as I move into retirement, I call upon the Holy Spirit to help me determine how to best continue serving others. Please pray that I hear the Holy Spirit’s call. Thank you for trusting me to provide guidance and counseling support to God’s most precious gifts, your children, especially during their most vulnerable moments and times of need. It’s truly been an honor and a privilege!
Know that I will carry each of you in my heart, and remember you in my prayers! Thank you for the memories!
God bless you all, Mrs. Laurie Hinojosa (Mrs. H.) CONGRATULATIONS FR. ERIC!
On the 18th Anniversary of your priestly ordination, May 24. Thank you for your tireless service to our parish and school. May Our Lord Jesus Christ bless you abundantly in your priestly ministry.
Dear Parents, Although we really need a break this summer, I am imploring you to please be attentive to our summer work for our students. Although we had a fairly normal year, we cannot take for granted the disruptions we have had, and the holes and gaps that may exist in our student’s education. St. Luke has purchased memberships to Dreambox and Lexia, so our students can engage in math and reading over the summer, as painlessly as possible. Dreambox is an intuitive reading program that adapts and adjusts to each student’s needs. The program will keep the student on the same skill, until they have mastery. The program also has no ceiling, so students who have a strength in math will have unlimited capacity to advance in math. Lexia is a multi-sensory approach to reading fluency and comprehension. This program is also intuitive and gives the students extra practice to grow in critical skills to improve overall academic achievement. Both programs offer an exciting way to learn and grow, so any gaps that may exist, can be closed. We are ready to watch our students soar next year and having a strong math and reading foundation will give us the sky as our limit! It is also extremely easy to improve reading. Give your children books to read and make time as a family to sit down and read together. I promise you the effort is worth it! If you notice you have a reluctant reader, there are many programs and apps that will read books to your child. This is very beneficial, as it allows children to experience book language, learn new vocabulary, and learn writing, simply by listening. Please help us this summer by participating in our plan for summer growth. Any questions, please reach out. Nadine Buhrman Congratulations St. Luke class of 2017 on your high school graduation! Once a Rebel, always a Rebel!
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the yearbooks are delayed until the end of June. We are sincerely sorry for this delay. We are taking this opportunity to throw a special autograph party in July, so the students can get their yearbooks, see their friends, and have an autograph party. We hope this party will help to ease the disappointment of not receiving them this week.
The following dates and times are designed for convenience, taking into account parents’ work schedules, camps, or other events during the day. If you cannot attend the yearbook party, we will have your child’s yearbook for them next year and allow time for autographs at the beginning of the year. The grades to follow are the grade they are currently in for the 2020-2021 school year. You may also pop in at any of the times to get your yearbook, if the designated autograph party will not work for you. We hope the children will enjoy gathering this July and once again, we extend our apologies for the delay.
Yearbook Autograph Party in the Cafeteria Tuesday July 6th 3:00 - 4:00 - 6th, 7th and 8th grades 4:30- 5:30 - 4th and 5th grades Wednesday July 7th 3:00 - 4:00 - PreK, Kinder, and 1st grades 4:30 - 5:30 - 2nd and 3rd grades Hope to see you there! Go Rebels!

The library is all packed up to undergo its renovation. To proceed, we have to move all the packing boxes out of the library. We are asking for 10-12 dads to volunteer their time on Saturday, June 5th to help move the boxes from the library to the Art room. Hand trucks will be needed as there are about 600 boxes.
