Dear St. Luke Community, We heard a message in mass this morning about God having a plan for each one of us. This caused me to reflect way back to when I was the middle school religion teacher here at St. Luke. I spent the summer reading, studying, and praying. I remember being very confused about this “plan” God had for me. I asked my husband, who is a theologian, how can God have a plan for me, if I have free will. He had a very simple response, he said, ”God has one plan for you and that is for you to be happy.” He went on to say that,”you can’t be happy without love, God is love. If you live in God’s love, you will be happy. If you practice the loving ways Jesus modeled for us, you will be happy.”
Sometimes, the simple answers are the ones that resonate deeply to the soul. We make our connections and gain understanding of God through the Holy Spirit. This connection is all about love. The foundation of all we recognize as Christians is built on love. Jesus said the most important commandment is to love one another. It all became perfectly clear to me, God wants me to be happy. The way to feel happy is to love one another, and the love connects me to God. It was so simple, so pure. It all seemed to make sense and set me on a path to truly being close to God through loving one another. This simple message of happiness and love is so beautiful. It can transform people, communities, and most importantly, hearts. We are all working together to teach our children that exact message of happiness. Loving one another leads to happiness, and that is God’s plan. Let’s work together to teach our children how to follow God’s plan through their actions every day. Together we can change our world, one heart at a time.
