Dear Middle School Parents, Thank you for being a part of our successful first quarter. This year has been a year of learning, creativity, and hard work. The teamwork that has grown, due to the pandemic, has been truly amazing. Thank you for being a part of the St. Luke family. I wanted to take this time to clarify the role specials has in our curriculum. We firmly believe that anything worth doing, is worth doing well. With that being said, we really want our children to benefit from the special classes we have to offer. We have art, music, Spanish, library and study skills, and technology. We want to continue to grow our special classes, so our students have a variety of skills and interests, outside the core classes. To show the value of these classes, our students should attend class and complete the assignments, as assigned. Our students are doing very well adjusting to the new world we live in, and our standards should not be lowered. At St. Luke, we teach our students that you can rise to any occasion with hard work. With that being said, we are extending a grace period for the first quarter. Students who achieved the grades in core classes will make honor roll. Specials and conduct grades will not interfere with receiving honor roll this first quarter, due to our grace period for the first quarter only. For the rest of the year, we will continue to hold our students to a high standard. Students will not be eligible for honor roll if they receive a poor conduct mark, or do not attend specials and complete the assignments. If students have not been attending specials. they can still access the past assignments and catch up. The expectation is that they will attend from now on and complete assignments. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Nadine Buhrman Interim Principal COUNSELOR’S CORNER . . .
In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Tips for Keeping Kids Safe, Healthy and Drug Free
Start talking to your kids at an early age about drugs.
Be a model of healthy behavior for your child.
Don’t be afraid of setting rules. Parental disapproval of drug use plays a strong role in keeping kids drug free.
Get to know your children’s friends and their parents.
Keep your kids engaged in after school activities.
Lock your meds at home.
Eat dinner together regularly. Kids who eat dinner with their families 5 or more times a week are much less likely to experiment with and abuse drugs and alcohol.
