Well, the teachers are back! I was so excited to see everyone. It was definitely a tough summer working through all of our safety plans with limited contact with the teachers. I am happy to say, our safety plan and learning plan are well organized and ready to start implementing. As we come together this week, we are finalizing our schedule, opening the doors wide for possibilities, and focusing on meeting the needs of our community.

As all of you have been experiencing, sometimes we have to pivot with this new world we are living in. I just want to assure you that I am doing my best to see the whole picture before I make decisions. I consult with School Council, the teachers, Father Eric, parents, kids, to name a few. I look at the three buckets I must fill, as we navigate this new and uncertain time. I have three buckets I focus on when making decisions; one for the students, one for the teachers, and one for the parents. I try to base my decisions on how I can fill each bucket the fullest. My goal is, and will remain, to fill as many buckets as I can. I am devoted to each one of you. I ask that you trust me, as we approach our school opening. I give you my word that I will do my best to make good decisions with safety and love at the forefront of my mind.

The bucket that gets the most attention is the student bucket. Together, we are the team that is filling the buckets of the children. Each one of you has made the decision to stick with us, because you believe that our contribution to your child’s development is valuable. You did not give up on us, even when we had to pivot… a few times. That is what family is like. We do not give up on each other. So, as we open next week, let’s focus on filling our child’s bucket. Let’s fill it with patience, confidence, and love. We have the gift of time to start our new year slow and steadily. We may have to pivot, but that is ok. We can get through this together.

The teacher’s bucket is going to need all of us to fill. This new way of teaching can present insecurities, frustration, and loneliness. Let’s fill our teachers’ buckets with joy and happiness. I ask that you be patient with them, send them positive emails, and pray for them. I heard a wise man say, students are made from the teachers’ hearts. Let’s fill their hearts and start this school year with confidence that we will get through this, one step at a time.

The parent’s bucket is easy to fill. As you guys see the amazing teaching happening, the smiles on your child’s face, and the excitement of being back together (in class or at home) your bucket will start filling. We may hit a few snags, but that never stopped a Rebel before. We must all work together to fill each other’s buckets. Let’s go Rebels, we have never been afraid of a challenge.

With that said, I want to leave you with a simple thought; you made the decision to stick with us. We are St. Luke Catholic School. You made the right choice.

Welcome Ms. Gerace!

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica Gerace and I just relocated to San Antonio from New York City. This is my third year teaching, but my first year teaching in Texas. I am very excited to be St. Luke's new 2nd grade teacher. I am very outgoing and I love to spend time with family and friends. In my spare time, I like to go on road trips with my loved ones and explore new places. I have been to 17 states and counting! When I am not traveling, I also love swimming and going bike riding. I look forward to this new adventure. Blessings to all!
