Red Ribbon Week is a time set aside nationwide for all to focus on drug education awareness and prevention. This year's theme was "God Answers Prayers...Drugs Don't". In addition to educational lessons and presentations aimed at helping students make healthy, drug-free choices, students prayed for children, adolescents, and their families whose lives have been negatively impacted by drugs and alcohol. Educational lessons included presentations by medical students from the UT Health Science Center Medical School on the dangers of tobacco and by staff members from EXCEL...Rise Above the Rest on the harmful effects of drugs. Prayer blankets made by students were donated to families receiving services from the EXCEL...Rise Above the Rest organization.
