Mr. Edward C. Ybarra, Jr.
2018 Archbishop Patrick F. Flores Lifetime Achievement AwardEdward C. Ybarra, Jr. is currently the Interim Principal/Vice President of Student Development at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, TX. A 1983 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Mr. Ybarra earned a B.A. in Business Management from Texas Lutheran University and a Master of Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Ybarra was presented the Marianist Heritage Award - Central Catholic High School's highest honor. In 2008, he was nominated for the National Catholic Educational Association Assistant Principal of the Year and Outstanding Leader in Catholic Education by the Archdiocese of San Antonio. . In 2012, the NSide Publications Nspire Award and 2014, the Armando R. Luna Spirit of Service and Sacrifice Award.
He has been married to Lisa (Guzman) for 26 years and they have three beautiful children, Lauren, Lianna, and Jacob. Their children are alumni of St. Luke Catholic School.
Dr. Devin Macias
2018 St. Luke Scholar Award
Devin Alexandra Macias, M.D., is the daughter of Deacon Roger and Ester Macias. Dr. Macias attended St. Luke Catholic School from Pre-Kindergarten until her 8th grade graduation in 2003. Her brother, Trey Macias (’05) is also an alumnus of St. Luke Catholic School. While at St. Luke she was involved in many school and church activities and was a St. Luke cheerleader. Dr. Macias received one of four Archdiocesan academic entrance exam scholarships to attend Incarnate Word High School and graduated in the top 10% of her class in 2007. While attending Incarnate Word, Dr. Macias was a Central Catholic High School Cheerleader.
Her love for biology and her passion to pursue a career in medicine led her to the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a B.A. with honors in 2011. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Macias completed international studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico and the Universidad de País Vasco in San Sebastian, Spain.
Dr. Macias received a full academic scholarship to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where she received her Doctor of Medicine in May 2015. While in medical school, she was a member of St. Basil the Great Society; a society interested in serving others through the field of medicine while learning more about the Catholic faith. She is currently completing her third year of residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital. She was named by her peers and faculty as the 2018-2019 Chief Resident. Dr. Macias has published numerous research articles in various aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology and several of her photographs have been published in “Williams Obstetrics.” Throughout her academic career as well as in her community service involvement, Dr. Macias has received many well-deserved awards. However, being the first recipient of the St. Luke Scholar Award from our community sincerely stands as one of her most coveted achievements, as it reflects the life of St. Luke the Physician, who healed the sick and followed Jesus Christ, the greatest physician.
